Step OneStep 1: Clean the Roof Surface

Use Xylene (Xylol) or isopropyl alcohol where the guards are to be attached to clean the surface. Do not allow the cleaner to come in contact with the guard.

Step 2: Pre-Drill and Apply Adhesive

Step TwoScrew TypesPre-drill starter points if Self Tapping screws (figure A) are used instead of Self Drilling screws (figure B). Self Drilling type screws do not require pre-drilling of the guard. Cut the tip of the silicone sealant nozzle in a broad fashion and smear the sealant evenly across the entire base of the guard. The SnoJax II and IceJax have special interchangeable bases to straddle a minor rib. If there are no minor ribs, the flat surface should always be down. Ensure the adhesive will uniformly cover the complete underside of the base, and provide an adequate squeeze-out around the entire perimeter when the guard is set in place. If straddling a minor rib, the gap must be filled with sealant before guard placement.

Step OneStep 3: Mount Snow Guard

Place the guard perpendicular to roof slope with flat front facing toward the ridge. Insert two Neoprene Washered #14 screws into the starter points or pre-drilled holes. Screw through the guard into a purlin, structural support, or at least 2" thick wood blocking. Using a long socket to avoid scratching the guard, tighten screws to cause approximately 50% compression of the neoprene washer. Check to ensure the silicone has squeezed out around the entire perimeter and run a bead of Silicone in areas that have any voids. With a rubber glove on, smooth the sealant around the edge of the guard, creating an aesthetically pleasing, weather tight seal.

Additional Instructions:

  • SureBond SB-190 is not recommended as a sealant when screw mounting guards.
  • Non-Acetic Neutral Curing Silicone must be used on galvanized or Galvalume® roofs.
  • Always obtain a spacing layout before installation, and follow suggested layout to assure your satisfaction and validate warranty.
